AWS Present Amazon FSx for NetApp OnTap
This addition means Ontap will function as a fully-managed cloud service, allowing users to run their code on AWS.
On September 3, 2021, Amazon Web Servicesannounced the general availability of a new file system, Amazon FSx for NetApp OnTap, bringing OnTap to the cloud scene for the first time.
This would benefit ONTAP's existing users as they have access to cloud leverage for the first time.
This would be the third offering of Amazon FSx.
AWS users can now access all OnTap operations on AWS.
The elimination of multi-platform operations would promote the use of NetApp OnTap on AWS.
It is only the first few days of September. The segment of Amazon most associated with cloud service, AWS, is already making strides, debuting the Amazon FSx for NetApp OnTap. This announcement was made at the yearly AWS Storage Day virtual event.
This is only the third offering of Amazon FSx since November 28, 2018, when Amazon FSx for Windows File Server, a Microsoft data storage system, and 16 May 2019, when Amazon FSx for Lustre, an open source high-performance cloud simulation system, was introduced. This recent development profiles Ontap file storage alongside these, with every nook of NetApp, features, performances, APIs, pipelines, etc.
Customers can use the service to access all of the NetApp Ontap operating system's functionality but in a fully managed cloud environment. In this situation, everything is managed by AWS, including capacity management, performance, updates, and so on, but customers have access to customer monitoring tools and API-based controls.
NetApp ONTAP is a file storage system popular among businesses for handling data off their main applications. The file system makes it easier for apps to get the data they need to do their jobs. In the background, the software conducts numerous associated operations, such as compressing files to free up storage space to provide storage convenience for its users.
“In collaborating with NetApp to deliver Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP, we’re giving customers the only complete cloud service that is built on ONTAP and provides its most popular features and capabilities,” attested Wayne Duso, Vice President of File, Edge, and Data Services at AWS.
NetApp OnTap has been quite familiar with AWS before this development but is not familiar with its cloud benefits. Teams had to do a routinely tedious job of deployment and maintenance on OnTap. Amazon FSx for NetApp Ontap is changing that, automatically reducing the workload and ensuring cloud exposure.
Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP has the potential to assist many businesses to expedite their cloud migration. Many enterprises use On-premises NetApp ONTAP file system deployments to manage parts or all of their mission-critical business data. AWS can lessen the complexity of shifting on-premises data workloads to its platform by making it easier to run the file system in the cloud, incentivizing more businesses to make the switch.
Amazon FSx for NetApp OnTap is available in regions like Ohio, N. Virginia, Oregon, Cape Town, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo, Central, Frankfurt, Ireland, London, Milan, Paris, Stockholm, Bahrain, São Paulo.
